Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday disagreed with the fact that youth were shying away from politics and said that many leaders like Meenakshi Natrajan entered it without any political connection.
"Meenakshi is not alone...There were several others like her who had entered politics without any political connections," he said addressing a press conference here, where he was flanked by Natrajan, Congress MP from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh.
Stressing this fact, Rahul said he did not even know the person who was elected as President of the Youth Congress in Punjab Unit.
"Similar is the case with Tamil Nadu," he said adding the result of the membership drive of the Youth Congress in Tamil Nadu was such that the total member strength has gone up to 15 lakh from the earlier 40,000.
'The status I have got today is only because of my ancestors'
Rahul Gandhi said that he has reached the status where he is now thanks to his father, grandmother and great grandfather.
"Main apne pita, nani aur pardada ke bina us jagah par nahin pahunch sakta tha jahan main aaj hoon," he told a press conference.
During his interaction with students in four educational institutions yesterday also, Rahul had said that he was in politics because of his family.
He had also said that this was one way of entering politics and he was an example of this.
