The Women’s Bill which the UPA government took a prestige issue and introduced in the both the houses today, has been facing hurdles and obstructions through out the day.  Ever since it was introduced in Rajya Sabha in the morning and Lok Sabha in afternoon, the houses got adjourned repeatedly owing to the acute opposition shown against it by SP and RJD Members of Parliament. 

Later Veerappa Moily again introduced the bill in RS.  But opposing it the SP, BSP and RJD members have again made ruckus by tearing and throwing the tabled papers on Rajya Sabha  Chairman, Hamid  Ansari and squatting before his podium.  There after, the Chairman adjourned the proceedings upto 4 P.M.  Afterwards the protesting members met the Chairman and apologized to him for their discourteous attitude.  In Lok Sabha also, the SP, BSP and RJD members created a scene opposing the women’s bill and demanding introduction reservations for women, OBC and minorities in the proposed bill.  

Not able to contain the disorder, the Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the house to 2 PM and again to 3. PM.   When the pandemonium did not die down even at 4 P.M., Lok Sabha Speaker adjourned proceedings to  Tuesday and Rajya Sabha  was adjourned to 6 P.M. today.  On the whole Rajya Sabha was adjourned 5 times today.= due to this issue.  Meanwhile Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for an all party meeting at 6PM this evening to discuss and find out acceptable solutions to the issue.  It is to be seen as to how the Women’s Bill will succeed in getting the approval in  both houses.
