The wait is over! The Queens Baton Relay has arrived and the world’s spotlight will shine on the Gold Coast tonight for the Opening Ceremony of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
With 11 days of sporting events, the Gold Coast has been transformed into an international sporting mecca where the action won’t be just be confined to the stadium.
Our Queensland Ambassador for the Games, Courtney Atkinson, jumped in a helicopter and sneaked a bird’s eye view of the Gold Coast, the Games precincts and the golden shores waiting to welcome the world.
Catch the action of the swimming at the Optus Aquatic Centre, the Rugby Sevens at Robina Stadium and the Athletics at the Carrara Stadium. You can also soak in the Gold Coast sunshine and get outdoors to watch the Triathlon at Southport Broadwater Parklands, the Beach Volleyball at the Coolangatta Beachfront and the Mountain Biking at the Nerang Mountain Bike Trails.
Stretched along 55km of beaches and fringed by ancient rainforests, the Gold Coast boasts a stunning backdrop to witness this international celebration of sport in a destination that is beautiful one day, perfect the next.
