Indian wrestlers have marked their arrival in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Thursday, as Babita Kumari Phogat contributed with a silver medal on Day 8. The Glasgow Commonwealth Games champion was beaten by Canada's Diana Weicker in the final of the 53kg Women's freestyle Nordic System Match 5-2. This is Haryana wrestler's third consecutive medal at Commonwealth Games. Earlier, she had bagged silver medal in 2010 Delhi's Commonwealth Games in 51 kg weight class and a gold medal in 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 55 kg weight class.

Babita started her medal journey by defeating Bose Samuel of Nigeria in her opening bout. It was the toughest outing for her as per today's bouts are concerned. The wrestler looked out of shape and rusty and squandered a point for passive attacking in the first period. She had to shake off the strong start by the Nigerian and took lead 2-1 in the second period.
